Services on BlackBerry

Hotel Murah di Garut - Famous for facilitating millions of business introductions and professional hook-ups, LinkedIn Corp.' s latest connection is with Research In Motion Ltd. A day after LinkedIn revealed plans to establish a Canadian headquarters in Toronto, the Mountain View, Calif.-based company today will take the wraps off a new mobile application designed to integrate the popular business social network's services with RIM's BlackBerry devices.

Hotel Murah - For LinkedIn, the new application highlights the company's aggressive expansion plans, which involve new international offices and put-ting LinkedIn onto the most popular mobile devices for business users.

For RIM, the LinkedIn application represents another example of how the Black-Berry maker's stance toward applications allows third parties to integrate their services with the core calendar, email and address-book functions of its smartphones.

"I really do see a world within the next few years where users' primary, and potentially only, experience with LinkedIn may be from the mobile device," said Adam Nash, LinkedIn's vice-president of search and platform products.

This isn't the first mobile application developed by LinkedIn -- the company launched an application for Apple Inc.'s iPhone in August 2008-- but Mr. Nash said his team tailors each mobile app to take advantage of the specific features of each device.

"People buy and use different mobile devices for specific reasons," Mr. Nash said. "They usually pick a platform or a provider because they like the services and applications that platform provides. If you were going to provide the uses that BlackBerry users want the most, what would they be and how would they work?"

Unlike most other smartphone applications that operate independently from other programs on a user's device, the LinkedIn BlackBerry app is designed to integrate itself into the core functions of the device, including its calendar, contact list and email inbox.

Messages sent to a user's LinkedIn inbox will appear in their BlackBerry inbox alongside a special icon. Users will also be able to look up the public LinkedIn profile of anyone in their contact list, anyone who sends them an email message and anyone they have a meeting scheduled with through the calendar application.

Even before applications were the toast of the smartphone world, RIM was helping many of its large customers in the business world integrate their own software -- for example, sales-force automation technology--into the core applications of the BlackBerry.

"It's something we've always felt was important for enabling a class of application that presents a very high value back to the user and deliver the type of integrated experience that we think is important to drive the success of those apps," said Tyler Lessard, RIM's vice-president of independent software vendor alliances and developer relations.
